Intra-categorical approaches

Intra-categorical approaches correspond to the original orientation of intersectional perspectives which focused on heterogeneity within social groups, for example within the group of women or Black people. Intra-categorical approaches usually examine a specific social identity or experience in the context of intersectional relations of power and domination in order to highlight previously invisible or marginalised identities or experiences, for example Black women's experiences at the intersection of sexism and racism.
